The internet has all kinds of amazing resources for music lovers. Here are a few of my favorites:
www.allmusic.com
Descriptions of every genre you can think of - who knew that there was an "Obscuro" sub-genre of the "Psychedelic/Garage" part of Pop/Rock. Once you narrow down to your favorite section, it gives you the top albums, songs, and artists for that genre. Very cool.
music.myspace.com
Don't let the name scare you off - MySpace has it's downfalls but their music page is not one of them. You can search for any artist or song and listen to it directly off their site - not all songs will be there but their library is pretty extensive. It's nice when you have a specific song in mind.
www.freeplaymusic.com
A collection of over 5,000 instrumental music pieces divided up into the following categories: Production Music, Indie Music, and Sound Effects. There are all kinds of things that you can hear on this site that would be difficult to find elsewhere. One of my favorites is "A Question of Why" from the Rock Grooves Vol. 1. You can download MP3s directly to your computer.
I'm off to keep searching for more cool stuff - hope you enjoy these!
