"Prelude in D-flat Major" by Chopin

I love it when I have some time to sit at the piano and just play for the sake of playing. No scales or technique-building exercises...just playing to hear the sound and feel the keys under my fingers. I had a chance to do that this week and I felt so much better getting up from the piano bench than I had all day. My tangled web of thoughts faded into the background when they were faced with beautiful music. Beautiful music that speaks to my soul.

"Prelude in D-flat Major" by Frederic Chopin is beautiful music to me. The piece is also called "Raindrop", presumably because of the constant driving of eighth notes throughout the song. The seemingly floating melody in the right hand carries through to the more intense middle section. I love how the music rises and falls and goes between major chords and minor chords. The contrast between the loud and full sections and the quiet more simple melodies makes my spirit rise and fall as well. I hope that everyone can find a song that makes them feel the same way.

Take a few minutes to listen to Vladimir Horowitz play "Raindrop"...I'm sure you'll be glad that you did. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=825Ekk1u3mQ&feature=related)
