Hold your breath...there has to be a mistake somewhere!

You probably have noticed that I love piano music by now. I love to play...it makes me feel like I'm in control of something and I have the power to make something beautiful or strange, depending on the direction I decide to go.

I've been playing the piano since I was 14 and it just clicked with me. That was kind of old to start training, comparatively. Most of the people I competed against in festivals were the same age but had been playing at least 8 years when I had played for one. I was classically trained and I really grew to love music. Choirs and soloists always needed accompanists so I did that too. I think that was my favorite...playing a supporting role rather than the star.

When I got to college, I was a piano performance major. Being under the kind of pressure that came with the major really made me rethink the direction I was going. "Do I really want to do this? What am I going to do with it when I'm done?" I dropped out of school after my first year, deciding that my piano teaching studio was definitely the kind of thing I wanted to do. I taught for 3 years before I moved to Boise and I loved every day of it. I would love to start it up again but am a little stuck - not sure how to work full time and teach on top of that. I know that music is a part of my life and will always be.

These 2 pieces take my breath away. Not necessarily because they are so difficult and executed perfectly (though there is that!) but because they make me hold my breath and listen for a mistake. I will always appreciate the beauty in music and the hard work that goes into it, even if it's never my career again. I hope you enjoy these pieces as much as I do.

"Carol Ann" by Michael W. Smith
This version is a little different than the original but it's still really beautiful. If you were here in my living room, I would play it for you. :-)
