"Romance" by Reinhold Gliere

This song reminds me of a black and white movie scene...rain is falling on the lush grounds of the lead woman's estate. She is inside, next to the blazing fireplace, with the man she loves across the room. She is begging him to remember all the wonderful times that they shared, to reflect back on the things they did and hold on to those great memories. He allows her to pull him into her memories and laugh at the silly things they once did. Alas! The happy remembrance is not to last. The reality of their situation sets in...will she quietly accept the fact that he does not love her? The music returns to the tranquil melody that it started with. A sad melody that holds a broken heart in place.

"Romance" is a song that puts all sorts of pictures in my head. The shifts between sad and happy melodies is pleasant and simple. I can feel the emotion behind the music and it draws me in, definitely in a good way.

I couldn't find this piece anywhere except for a couple of young student recitals on YouTube. It's a piece that I've played for a long time but still love.
